Poundland is recalling two Halloween decorations over safety fears. The light up ghost and pumpkin carry a "high risk of injuries and choking due to easy access to button batteries", according to a notice on the Government's website .

The items have a product code of 536659 and were sold in store from October 1. The retailer has posted a warning notice on its website asking shoppers to return the affected products to store for a full refund, the MEN reports.

It said: "Poundland are recalling the above products due to serious safety risk and potential injury due to the battery compartment of the product not being adequately secured which can expose the button cell batteries. The button batteries may be placed in the mouth and swallowed, presenting a choking hazard for young children and causing damage to the gastrointestinal tract.

"If you have bought the above products, do not use them. Instead return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund. No receipt is required."
