The M40 has fully reopened after being partially closed due to a crash today (Sunday, October 23). The incident caused long traffic queues in Buckinghamshire.

One lane of the M40 southbound was shut to traffic following the collision. The incident took place between Junction 2 for Beaconsfield Services and the A355, and Junction 1A with the M25 .

Traffic cameras showed lengthy queues in the area. The incident was first reported by Inrix, the traffic data company, at around 11.30am.

Inrix said: "One lane closed and queueing traffic due to accident, three cars involved on M40 Southbound from J2 A355 ( Beaconsfield ) to J1A M25 J16." The incident is causing long delays.

Severe weather also caused flooding on part of the M40 today. Traffic was queueing between Junctions 4 and 5 on the northbound carriageway as a result of a lane closure.

The stretch of the motorway between Stokenchurch and High Wycombe has been affected since around 10.15am. Inrix said: "One lane closed and queueing traffic due to flooding on M40 Northbound from J4 A404 (High Wycombe Handy Cross Roundabout) to J5 A40 Ibstone Road (Stokenchurch)."

Accident cleared near Beaconsfield

Inrix, the traffic data company, is reporting that the three-car crash near Beaconsfield has now been cleared from the M40 Southbound:

Traffic easing, accident cleared on M40 Southbound between J2 A355 (Beaconsfield) and J1A M25.

Flooding cleared near High Wycombe

The closed lane on the M40 Northbound between Stokenchurch and High Wycombe due to flooding has reopened, Inrix says:

All lanes open and traffic easing, earlier flooding on M40 Northbound from J4 A404 (High Wycombe Handy Cross Roundabout) to J5 A40 Ibstone Road (Stokenchurch).
